Prada’s Autumn / Winter Womens Wear Fashion Show in Milan (February 2012)
Here’s Burberry’s Autumn / Winter full fashion show (February 2012)
Crocs. Apparently one of the most comfortable footwear ever.
They’re actually okay…if youre under the age of 5. Unfortunately, on multiple occasions, I’ve witnessed people wear their cute little outfits with crocs. Honestly, they might as well wear raincoats and maybe bucket hat to go along.
I know the argument is that its comfortable, but appearance wise, they hardly look good.
A wise friend once taught me, “Suck it up to look good”. I think we should spread the word. Who cares if youre wearing 5 inch heels which give your feet blisters. In the fashion world today, its really all about image. Of course, comfort is a plus, but its not o much priority most the time. All the famous designer labels out there today, are they known for their comfort? Hardly. They are known for their creative expression, their innovative designs and art.
What is acceptable in terms of comfort is the now in fashion MC hammer pants (not the ones which are only baggy/loose on top and fitted/tight on the bottom ugh). These fashion statements are awesome, especially if they have great prints. This is what I mean by comfort as a bonus. You wear these on your lazy days, they’re effortlessly simple yet with a stylistic touch.
What I’m trying to say is, unless you really don’t care about image at all (doubtful): Everyone, find comfortable AND nice looking clothing and etc, or man up to brighten up todays fashion world. Don’t just go for comforts.

Halloween 2011
Less than a week til halloween! (October 31st)
Theres a lot of options out there and different categories too. I’ve put a list of some halloween costume / dress up ideas. (at the moment theres only a few, adding the rest tomorrow!)
Esther
If you haven’t watched the orphan you definitely should watch it this halloween.
Esther is the main character in this film- the orphan.
To dress up as her you will need:
- a dress that looks as if from the, “olden days”
- Black collar/ ribbon/ lace to tie around your neck and wrists
- Two black ribbons for your hair
For your hair; put them up into pigtails and finish off with the black ribbon tied in bows.
Make up; draw black eyeliner (preferably soft kohl or something that will smudge) on your top and bottom lids and later smudge it messily with a smudger
Use light/pale foundation and powder
Apply blood red lipstick.
If you want, you can get some old fashioned rings (I wouldnt recommend bracelets or necklaces however, since there is already the collar and wristbands)
Police
You can either buy a cop outfit online, or at costume stores.
Alternatively, you can just pop on a black fitted skirt, black top and buy a po po hat, handcuffs, toy gun, sheriff badge and tool belt from bargain/costume stores. As for shoes, black boots, docs or all black converses will do it.
Prisoner
You can do this with a friend, one of you as the police, the other as the prisoner.
Prisoners you can wear an orange top, and shorts, black bandana and black doc martins. To accessorize, wear handcuffs and write a 4-5 digit number on a white rectangle shaped cloth and stick to your top.
If orange isnt your colour, black and white stripey clothing will do, this can be a dress or a top. If wearing a top, wear black leggins/shorts/skirt.
Mario
Mario from the mario brothers!
Blue overalls or denim shorts with suspenders. A red t-shirt. White gloves and brown ankle boots or otherwise. Lastly, and most importantly, a red mario cap! You can buy these from merchandise/party/costume stores (not very cheap)
If you want, you can also get a fake moustache, i wouldnt bother though.
Girl from the ring
If you haven’t watched the ring, google search an image or something (its a bit scary btw)
So, its best if you have long, dark hair. Straighten your hair.
The girl from the ring wears an off white dress. Any of your plain, cream or dirty white dresses will do.
For make up, use black eyeliner and smudge messily, focusing on underneath your eyes.
Pale/light foundation and powder for your face.
Lipstick; wear skin coloured lipstick, or a colour which matches the coloour of your foundation/powder.
For shoes, light coloured sandals will do, but bare foot does it too.
Black singlet- with french seam!
More attempts to pattern make..
I decided the other day to try out making a simple pattern. A standard singlet pattern. I began by measuring my mannequin and recording the results. I then sketched the singlet pattern I was hoping to make, drawing a, “front” and a, “back” and with the measurements recorded prior, I added extra centimeters to allow room for seams. After all this pattern was done as a sketch, I followed the sketch and its’ measurements drawing an outline on pieces of newspapers. Lastly, I cut the it out and from there, used it as a pattern.
For the material, I used this black non-stretch material from reverse garbage for only $5 a meter. Also, with the side seams I sewed french seams, since I inconveniently don’t have an over locker yet. Before any sewing started, I realized that a plain black singlet was a bit plain and so accessorized it with black satin strips on the front.
The pattern worked out fine, however, I later decided the neck hole was too high cut. So after cutting a lower cut (and a bit off the shoulder straps) the shoulder straps turned out a bit thinner than originally planned, which was a better alternative, in my opinion.
In Australia, the spring/summer seasons come after the Autumn/winter, whilst other countries may have it the other way round. Or, in some cases, they don’t experience all the seasons we do.
In the fashion world, the jobs of seasons and different years are to introduce new trends or to keep the older but still popular ones. This spring/summer season of 2011 have brought along their fashion trends.
Lace Material
Whether it’s a top or a dress, lace material is very popular this season! It’s more popular for young women up until 30s.This material is light and casual, giving the dresser a fresh and young look. If you love Spring or Summer, celebrate with a bit of lace!
Cutouts
Out of all trends I have seen cutout outfits most! Okay, maybe not, hi-low’s are extremely popular this Spring/Summer seasons too. Nevertheless cutouts are rising in Australian fashion trends of 2011. With hundreds of different cutout dress designs they can be anywhere from casual to formal. However, in my opinion cutout dresses are best for smart casual and semi formal occasions. They usually go well with heels over any other types of footwear.
Jumpsuits
Jumpsuits have always been around, but this year we have seen an increase in popularity. The one thing in common between fashion designers are designing jumpsuits! Jumpsuits vary from casual to smart casual, but whatever the design is they always look simple yet sophisticated (one of my favourite looks). Depending on the textiles it can look be made very elegant, just like the photo’s above!
Hi Low Dresses
Hi-lows! Did you know, they are called mullet dresses by some people? Pretty self-explanatory. Anyway, that’s besides the point, these dresses which are shorter at the front and longer at the back. They are very eye catching. The shorter hem at the front exposes the legs, creating a Spring/Summer feeling. I tried on a few hi-low dresses earlier this year and liked them more than I expected. I guess they look better when you try them on, so don’t judge hi-lows until you have tried them on! For hi-low dresses sandals without heels really go well, sandals as in gladiator shoes etc. not crocs.
2011 a new year has come around so quickly. We have gone through this year just as quick. With the new year, new trends have been set. Twenty-eleven Autumn and Winter trends are the trends you will need to know about to keep up with fashion for these seasons! These trends have come from well known fashion designers all around the world, and have become popular in places like New York, Australia and many others.
Leather.
Leather. It looks, feels and smells good. It’s resistant to tearing, staining and fading. Simple, yet effective. This material can be used to achieve different looks; fashionista, “bad” girl or elegant. With all these looks, there is a trace of class.
Patterned Stockings.
In colder seasons, women still want to wear the dresses they so very much love and the shorts they are supposed to only wear on hot days. Wearing these dresses, shorts and what not, stockings seem to be the answer to protecting our legs from the cold. Plain stockings have become boring, however, we wear them in the office, to school etc. We see them everywhere. Patterned stockings are the cure to simplistic plain stockings. They draw attention to legs, further sophisticates an outfit and sometimes adds a touch of sexiness.
Low-Cut Ankle High Heel Boots.
Low-cut ankle high heel boots! When I first saw these type of shoes, they weren’t too appealing. The fact that it was low cut and boots didn’t seem to fit, boots usually cover feet, ankles and sometimes calves and knees. But low cut? It’s exposing the ankles whilst covering the entire foot, for me, it looked a bit odd. Nevertheless, I grew to like them. The more I saw, the more appealing they were. I guess that’s why it’s become a trend.
Knee High High-Heel Boots.
Knee high boots are so classy, elegant and sexy. These type of boots suit women with longer legs. They emphasize the long legs and make legs look slimmer. They go very well with the cold winter and autumn weather since they look so warm.
More to come very soon!
